… and run and run. A group of 12 local mothers, part of the Chapel Hill “See Jane Run” running group led by coach Joan Nesbit-Mabe, won the women’s division of the Blue Ridge Relay with a record-setting time of 30:11:52. All between the ages of 30 and 40, the 12 mothers account for 35 children between them. The 208-mile course ran from Grayson Highlands State Park, near the base of Mount Rogers (the highest peak in Virginia), along country roads in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains to the finish in Asheville. The Janes covered it in shifts, resting in two minivans that kept pace along the way. Co-ed teams from Chapel Hill’s Trailheads (10th place overall) and Mill Striders also took part in the annual event. Norman’s Maggots of Asheville won the overall standings with a total time of 23:03:45. Celebrating their achievement in Asheville, left-to right, are Janes: Layna Mosley, Nesbit Mabe, Bethany Paine, Randy Smith, Anne Wander, Cindy Miller, Patty McKnight, Christie Osborne, Liz Gualtieri-Reed, Meredith Bolon, Donna Parker, and Cindy Pacchianna.
