Mr. W. O. Lacock began one of Franklin Street's oldest family-operated businesses in 1918. The Depression hit merchants hard, but the Lacocks rebounded during WWII with the arrival of the pre-flight students at UNC. Lacock's Shoe Store operated through the mid-1980s.
