In 1911 Robert W. Foister opened his camera shop on Franklin Street, and for more than 70 years his store was one of Chapel Hill's most recognizable businesses. His business boomed when World War II brought Navy Pre-Flight School students to UNC. The demand for film was so great that Foister was forced to ration it, allowing only one roll per customer per week. Each Sunday morning, a line formed outside the shop and often stretched to the post office and beyond. Who else is important to Franklin Street's history?
