Sandwhich, a lunch spot in the Courtyard in Chapel Hill, made Bon Appetit writer Andrew Knowlton's Top 10 restaurant meals he ate in 2008.

On page 24 of the January issue, Knowlton lists "Lamb Tagine Sandwich with house-made potato chips" from Sandwhich's eclectic made-from-scratch menu on a list that includes restaurants from all over the world, including New York City, London, San Francisco and Paris.

"The response to the mention was incredible," says Sandwhich chef Hicham "Hich" Elbetri. "We got lots of calls and comments about it."

Sandwhich opened in the spring of 2005. It's open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you want to try their acclaimed lamb tagine sandwich, stop by in February. They change the menu, and that sandwich isn't being served this month. For more info, go to www.sandwhich.biz.

Olive Branch Caffe moves

The Olive Branch Caffe has moved into Cole Park Plaza on U.S. 15-501 south of Chapel Hill.

The 4,500-square-foot family restaurant opened in mid-October, said Nick Giuggio, who owns it with Paula Bruno. It has a bar, a large banquet room, a smoke-free pool room with three tables and an outside patio that seats 40.

Giuggio, originally from Massachusetts, says the menu has an Italian accent.

"The core of my business is family dining with takeout," he says.

Giuggio also has four live shows booked for February, "just to get a feel for what kind of entertainment is going to be successful."

UPS thanks its patrons

Thanks to the generosity of its customers, The UPS Store at Carrboro Plaza raised $394 for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program this holiday season. Together with other participating The UPS Store locations, more than $580,000 has been donated since launching the program in March 2008. One-hundred percent of the proceeds donated locally benefit children in the local community.

Every $1 donation helps the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation buy a book for a deserving child.

"The community's participation in the Toys for Tots Literacy Program was a key component to its success," said The UPS Store owner Bill Soeters.

The Literacy Program is ongoing, so The UPS Store at Carrboro Plaza can accept your donation year-round. Store hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
