If soccer is 'a gentleman's game played by brutes,' as the saying goes, then rugby is a brutish game played by gentlemen. And the gentlemen of East Chapel Hill High School play it very, very well. In this photo from Frances Gualtieri, the Highlanders form a scrum during last season's state high school championship tournament. Under the leadership of coach Robert Joseph, the Highlanders went on to claim their first state title, and several of the players went on to national team tryouts. Joseph notes that the Highlanders club welcomes prep players of any level from any school within the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area.
