In the past few months we have mentioned variety and value as reasons shelters are a smart consumer choice for acquiring pets. One final reason is service. Everyone who works at a shelter knows where the pets end up whose owners did not have the resources to care for them — at shelters.

So shelter employees are uniquely motivated to help you find the pet that is right for you. And they are willing to take the time. Staff will be quite frank about chewing, housebreaking and juvenile energy with puppies or why a fragile, shy dog might not be the best choice for small children.

Shelters will be happy to supply all the educational material you need to care for your pet, and, after the adoption, are also there to help you with any adjustment issues that may arise.

So to variety and value, add service to the reasons shelters are a smart place to find your next furry friend.
