- Andrea Edith Moore, the daughter of Joseph and Alice Moore of Hillsborough, performed the role of Serlina in the production of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" with the Opera Company of North Carolina on Oct. 5-6.She attended Chapel Hill schools and graduated from the N.C. School of the Arts in 1997. She received a bachelor's degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and a master's in music from Yale University. She is a founding member of the New York City-based Acanthus Chamber Opera and has appeared twice in the Carolina Voices Concert with the Opera Company of North Carolina.
- Katherine Williams of Chapel Hill participated in the Freshmen Service Experience, a community service project in which students contributed nearly 13,000 hours of service at 44 sites in the Washington, D.C., area. More than 500 American University students participated in the four-day FSE program this year. Williams is a graduate of East Chapel Hill High School and is a freshman at American University in Washington, D.C.
- Bevin Herrmann-Bell of Chapel Hill is studying abroad during the fall semester in Nantes, France. Herrmann-Bell is a student at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
- Grace Morgan Taylor of Chapel Hill recently served as a page in the N.C. Senate. She is the daughter of Virginia and Ralph Taylor and is a student at Jordan High School. Pages serve for one week. They attend Senate sessions daily and deliver bills and amendments for the senators. Pages also have committee assignments and assist staff members with office duties.
- Ana Bolera Villega of Chapel Hill will participate in the Nationals 2006 Miss Teen Raleigh pageant Oct. 22. She will compete in the Miss Teen division, one of three categories that include young women from 10 to 19 years of age. The winner of the competition will represent Raleigh and surrounding communities at the Cities of America National Competition in Orlando, Fla.
- Yee-Wing Chan of Chapel Hill was inducted into the Meredith University chapter of Kappa Nu Sigma on Sept. 21. The organization's purpose is to promote scholarship at Meredith College. Kappa Nu Sigma inducts students with junior hours who have a 3.8 GPA or better, students with senior hours who have a 3.7 GPA or better and graduating seniors who have a 3.6 GPA or better.
- Anuraag Pendyal of Chapel Hill recently participated in the Governor's Page Program in Raleigh. Anuraag spent the week of Aug. 14-18 providing administrative support as a page for the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. Anuraag is the son of Dilip and Surekha Pendyal and is a junior at Chapel Hill High School.
- David N. Ammons, professor of public administration and government at the UNC School of Government, has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). The academy is an independent, non-partisan organization chartered by Congress to assist federal, state, and local governments in improving their effectiveness, efficiency and accountability.NAPA's 550 fellows include current and former cabinet officers, members of Congress, governors, mayors, state legislators, diplomats, business executives, local public managers and scholars. Each year, academy fellows elect new members who have made sustained contributions to the field of public administration through public service or scholarship.Ammons joined the Institute of Government in 1996 and directed the master of public administration program from 2001 until earlier this year. His primary focus is in local government performance measurement, benchmarking and productivity improvement.
