During the six weeks of training, Holding studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

    He is the son of Sharon Holding of Chapel Hill and John Holding of Durham.

  • Army Pfc. Calvin Watson Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, Watson studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

    Watson's mother, Rita Watson, lives in Chapel Hill. He is a 2005 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.

  • Jonathan B. Boreyko of Chapel Hill has been chosen as a Trinity College President's Fellow for the 2006-07 academic year. His major is physics. The President's Fellowship is awarded by the faculty to the top student in each major, generally based on the student's grade-point average. Trinity College is in Hartford, Conn.
