- Eric Robert Hinderliter of Chapel Hill recently received the Eagle Scout Award. He is a member of Scout Troop 39. For his Eagle Project, Eric designed and built four wooden trashcan covers and planted flowers at University United Method-ist Church. The project was accomplished with the help of John Samulski, facilities manager at University Methodist, Troop 39 scouts and leaders and school friends.He is a sophomore at Chapel Hill High School. He has been on the tennis team and has run cross-country and played alto saxophone in the school bands. He also works at the UNC Farm (Faculty Staff Recreation Association) tennis shop on weekends.He is the fourth member of his family to receive the Eagle Scout Award. His brothers Michael and Jonathan and his father, Alan, are Eagle Scouts.
- Beau Long of Chapel Hill recently received the Eagle Scout Award. He is a member of Scout Troop 39. For his Eagle Project, Long built wooden bleachers at Smith Middle School for the baseball field. He had attended Smith for middle school and was formerly on their baseball team. The project was accomplished with the generous help of Troop 39 leaders and scout volunteers.Long is a senior at East Chapel High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and a North Carolina Academic Scholar candidate. Beau was captain of his JV soccer team which became Conference Champions his freshman year. He was also captain of his JV basketball team.
- Connor David Drake of Chapel Hill recently received the Eagle Scout Award. He is a member of Scout Troop 39. Drake's Eagle project consisted of building a wheelchair ramp at the New Hope Improvement Association. Thanks to the wheelchair ramp and other modifications, the New Hope Firehouse Building will become a voting precinct for the 2008 election. Drake plans to attend the College of Charleston in South Carolina in the fall.
- Alison Ryan of Chapel Hill has received the McKenna International Summer Internship from Claremont-McKenna College. She will work for the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative in New Delhi, India. She is the daughter of Michael and Janice Ryan.
- Dianne Elizabeth Lowell of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list and received a bachelor's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill on May 13. She has been accepted to attend The Publishing Institute at The University of Denver. She is the daughter of Duston and Susan Lowell.
- Malcolm Stuart White IV of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Elon University during commencement ceremonies May 19. He is the son of Malcolm and Deborah White.
- Bevin Zeke Herrmann-Bell of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. To make the list, a student must be enrolled for 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
- Caitlin Compton of Cedar Grove participated in Nursing Exploration Week June 17-22 at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing. Nursing Exploration Week, a residential program, gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to shadow nurses at Triangle-area medical centers to experience health-care situations that nurses encounter during typical workdays. Compton was among 32 high school students from across the state accepted to the program.
- Allison H. Smith of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. To be eligible for the list, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.
- Whitcomb Campbell Rummel of Chapel Hill, son of Whit Rummel and Christen Campbell, has received the Artistic Honors Scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design, where he will be a freshman in the fall.
- Drew Zellmer of Chapel Hill has been chosen as a member of the Madison Scouts 2007 Drum Corp International drum and bugle corp. The Scouts 2007 summer tour will include 21 states, and culminate in the Rose Bowl at the DCI World Championships, Aug. 9-11. Zellmer lettered with honors in band for four years at CHHS and was the 2005-06 Tiger Marching Band drum major. He is a sophomore music major at East Carolina University.
- Joanna Michelle Craver of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga. To make the list, students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3 and must have a semester grade-point average of at least 3.5 with at least nine hours of course work.
- Ross Joseph Simpson III of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Elon University during commencement ceremonies May 19. He is the son of Ross and Christine Simpson.
- Caitlin M. Moran of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at DePaul University. To make the list a full-time student must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
- Sarah Elizabeth Blythe of Chapel Hill received a master's degree in arts-English from the University of Kansas during commencement ceremonies May 20.
- Benjamin Donald Austin of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. To make the list, a student must be enrolled for 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
- Sante J. Piracci of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University during commencement ceremonies June 7. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael I. Piracci.
- Benjamin William Johnson of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Elon University during commencement ceremonies May 19. He is the son of George and Laurie Johnson.
