- Michelle Reams of Carrboro received a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from UNC-Greensboro during commencement ceremonies on May 11. She also graduated with honors.
- Jie Shen of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Penn State Beaver in Monaca, Pa. To qualify for the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
- Christopher McLennan, son of Don and Diana McLennan of Chapel Hill, has been named an academic honor student at Appalachian State University. Academic honor student designation at Appalachian is awarded to sophomore, junior and senior students who have a cumulative 3.9 or higher grade-point average in courses taken at the university. McLennan was also recognized for outstanding academic achievement by the Walker College of Business at its Awards Day Convocation. He was recognized as the top student in marketing. He graduated summa cum laude on May 6 with a degree in marketing.
- Amber Bivins, a rising junior at Chapel Hill High School, was selected to serve as secretary of the National Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Youth Advisory Board. Bivins accompanied a nine-member team that traveled to Farmville, Va., to discuss school violence issues, develop action plans for, not only her SAVE chapter, but also for SAVE chapters across the nation. She is the daughter of Debra Barksdale.
- Anthony Joyce of Chapel Hill has received a National Security Education Program David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship to study abroad at the American University of Cairo, Egypt, for the 2007-08 academic year. Boren Scholarships are merit-based and intended to provide support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently under-represented in study abroad and critical to U.S. national security. He is a student at Appalachian State University and the son of Katie Joyce.
- Hadley Mae Lowell completed a semester abroad in Chile with the American Field Service program. She will return to East Chapel Hill High School where she is a rising senior. She is the daughter of Duston and Susan Lowell.
- Laurel O'Neal of Chapel Hill has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Emory College in Atlanta. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor of Chapel Hill and Mark O'Neal of Durham and is a 2003 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.
- Lebbonee Price of Fearrington Village received an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., during the June commencement convocation ceremonies. She graduated from the N.C. School of Science and Math and received a bachelor's degree in economics from Wake Forest University in 2000. She is the daughter of Eddie and Marva Price.
- Brittany C. Snyder, daughter of Christopher and Mary Fay Snyder of Chapel Hill, has been named to the merit list at Kenyon College for the second semester of the 2006-07 academic year. To make the list, a student must have a grade-point average of 3.45 or better. She is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School.
- Daniel L. Pollitt of Chapel Hill recently served as a page in the N.C. Senate. He is a student at East Chapel Hill High School and the son of Daniel Pollitt and Linda Weisel. Pages attend Senate sessions daily, delivering bills and amendments for the senators. They also have committee assignments and assist staff members with office duties.
- Oleg Alekseev Jr. of Carrboro received a bachelor's degree from Bates College during commencement exercises on May 27. He is the son of Oleg and Victoria Alekseev and a 2003 graduate of Chapel Hill High School.
- Rachel Walker Reeves of Chapel Hill was named to the academic dean's list at N.C. State University for the spring semester. To make the list, a student must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. She is the daughter of Cindy Bristow and Jay Reeves and a graduate of East Chapel hill High School.
- Allison J. Price, daughter of Christopher and Susan Price of Chapel Hill, has been named to the merit list at Kenyon College for the second semester of the 2006-07 academic year. To make the list, a student must have a grade-point average of 3.45 or better. She is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School.
