  • Thurman Green, the collection and distribution systems manager with the Orange Water and Sewer Authority, has received the Golden Manhold Award from the N.C. American Water Works Association/Water Environment Association. The award recognizes people who have contributed to the advancement of education, training, operation, maintenance and management of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Caitlin Moran of Chapel Hill has been named to the dean's list for the autumn quarter at DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. To make the list, a full-time student must receive a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
  • Paul Burgo of Chapel Hill placed second in the Youth Category of the fifth annual Gingerbread Competition at the Carolina Inn.
  • Jennifer Santos Madriaga of Chapel Hill has received a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amhurst, Va. The award entitles her to a residency of two to eight weeks at Sweet Briar College in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
  • Nathan Hackney of Chapel Hill was named to the honor list for the fall semester at Louisburg College. To be named to the list a student must have a grade-point average of 3 to 3.49.
