The East Chapel Hill High School instrumental music department will present spring band and orchestra concerts this week in the school auditorium. The concerts will feature more than 150 students.On Tuesday, March 11, the school's concert, jazz and symphonic bands will perform. The Concert Band will perform Holsinger's "Prairie Dances," "Chant Rituals" by Elliot DelBorgo and Offenbach's "Ballet Parisian." The Jazz Combos will perform selections including "Airigen," "All of Me," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Close Your Eyes" and others. The Symphonic Band selections include "Four Scottish Dances" by British composer Malcolm Arnold, "The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls" by Californian Frank Erikson and "Tempered Steel" by Charles Rochester Young.Thursday night, March 13, the ECHHS Orchestra Department will perform works including a toccata by Frescobaldi for String Orchestra, Faure's "Pavane" and Gustav Holst's "Jupiter: The Bringer of Jollity." The feature works of the evening will include two concertos. Vikram Potdar will perform the first movement of Tschaikowsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat Minor. Alan Todas-Ambaras will perform the first movement of Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor.Shows both nights begin at 7:30. Tickets are $5 and will be on sale at the door.
