The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and its Special Needs Advisory Council will host an EC Parent Night on "Navigating the Special Education Process" on Thursday, March 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence adjacent to at Smith Middle School.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. with informational sessions starting at 7 p.m. Parents can attend one of three 90-minute sessions:

  • "Becoming Your Child's Best and Most Effective Advocate," presented by Judi Archer, parent educator at the Exceptional Children's Assistance Center;
  • "Planning for Transition from the School to the Adult World," presented by Doreen Byrd, parent educator at the Exceptional Children's Assistance Center;
  • "Understanding the Referral Process and Eligibility Determination for Special Education," presented by Kate Neale, N.C. Department of Public Instruction, and Al Soulier, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools psychologist.
