The Rashkis Elementary School Chess Team won the state championship in the K-5 section of the 2008 N.C. Scholastic Chess Championship. Team members include Dane Simon, Hans Singh, Benjamin Senior, Joshua Lai, Thomas Wang, Iyin Battle, Arnav Subramanya, Aninda Manocha, Nathaniel Lai and Jeffrey Williams. The club advisor is Carol Holmes. In individual competition, Dane Simon took second place, Hans Singh took fourth and Benjamin Senior won the 13th-place trophy. The K-3 team finished in eighth place; team members include Max Finklestein, Victor Zhao, Alex Broz and Bradley Clary. The K-1 team finished in fifth place; team members are Aneesha Manocha, Henry Fu and Felix Zhao.
