CHAPEL HILL -- Music, street performers, ethnic foods and more will enliven a global village Thursday, March 27, at UNC's FedEx Global Education Center.From 5 to 8 p.m., the atrium of the center, located at McCauley and Pittsboro streets, will be transformed into a village that creates the types of open-air markets common in Africa, Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The event, free to the public, will invite attendees to participate in hair braiding, calligraphy and other activities. They can visit simulated clothing and rug shops that are so much a part of everyday life in many countries.Cultural artifacts will be on display. Olives, spanikopita, traditional teas and more will be served; belly dancing, Turkish dancing, African drumming and more will be performed.
