This year's event will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the theme is "Swing Into Spring." We will wrap the May pole and enjoy steel drum music from Mickey Mills. It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the opening of the Robert and Pearl Seymour Center. Mark your calendar for May 28 to celebrate the occasion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highlights include a noon lecture by Joe and Terry Graedon of "The People's Pharmacy," exercise demos, healthy aging booths, entertainment and the dedication of a new outdoor sculpture created by Jean Parish and fabricated by Edwin White.

Dig through the closet and find those poodle skirts, blue jeans and T-shirts and join us on Saturday for a sock hop at the Big Barn fundraiser in Hillsborough from 7 to 10:30 p.m. All ages are invited. Every May brings the annual estate planning workshops co-sponsored the Orange County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. The Seymour Center workshops will be on May 8 and 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. The presenter will be Steve Lackey. On May 8 his presentation will be on "Transferring Property by Gift, During Life and Beyond." Topics will include lifetime gifts, wills, trusts, joint property, beneficiary designations and transfer taxes. On May 22 he will present "Who's in Charge?" Mark you calendar now for an evening of entertainment at the Seymour Center on May 30 starting at 7 p.m. or May 31 at 2 p.m. To celebrate the Seymour Center's first anniversary in the new building, Prime Time Players, the Seymour Center theater troupe, will sponsor "MayTime Merriment," a variety gala as a capstone for Older Americans Month. Share your own talent or come see your friends and neighbors as super novas celebrating this anniversary in skits, songs, dances, instrumental renditions, story telling, poetry interpretations, stand-up comedy, and other versions of variety entertainment. The "Taking the Next Step: Making the Most of Your Choices" series continues in May on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Seymour Center. Dates and topics are:

Many calls are coming into our centers with questions about the Economic Stimulus Rebate. We will offer filing assistance at the Seymour Center on May 20, 27 and June 17 and 24 from 9 a.m. to noon and every Thursday now through Oct. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Call 968-2070 for an appointment. "Turning 65 -- What Do I Need to Do? What Do I Need to Know?" will be rpesented at the Seymour Center on May 22 at 4:30 p.m. or June 25 at 3:30 p.m. Katherine Leith, Orange County Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) coordinator and trained SHIIP volunteers will be available to talk about individual situations. People have a special "window" to sign up for Medicare three months before their 65th birthday, the month of their birthday, through three months after their birthday. Medicare enrollment should be done even if someone continues to work. There are a lot of other decisions that need to be made during this period -- which can be very confusing. It's time again for the Friends Annual Meetings. Join the Friends of the Central Orange Senior Center May 16 at 10 a.m. and join the Friends of the Seymour Center on June 19 at 1 p.m. Annual reports will be presented and officers will be elected. All members and potential members are welcome.

Sunday Afternoons at the Seymour Center, formally known as Distinguished Artist Series, will finish this series on May 18 at 3 p.m. with a concert by the East Chapel Hill High School Jazz Combo. Cost at the door is $7.

The Seymour Center's Brazilian Film Festival 2008 will be on Thursdays, May 1-22, at 2:30 p.m. Learn diverse aspects of Brazilian culture through different film genres. Helen O'Neal, a Brazilian culture and cross-cultural consultant, will lead a group discussion following each film. Also a coffee tasting will be provided by local coffee shops after each film. Seymour Center Classic Book-Film Series begins May 15 at 7 p.m. with a viewing of the film "Ethan Frome," based on the book by Edith Wharton. The book discussion will be on May 22. Call 968-2070 to sign up for the film and/or discussion group.

A new tap dance class is starting May 7 at 2 p.m. Learn how to tap from Footnotes Tap Ensemble co-artistic director Robin Vail. Learn basic tap technique, historical tap steps and routines, and tap dance to some old standards.
