Durham Blue Devil club diver Abby Johnston and her partner, Mary Yarrison of Austin, Texas, made the finals of the AT&T FINA Grand Prix in Ft. Lauderdale May 8-11 and finished sixth in the Women's Synchronized 3-meter Springboard behind teams from Russia, China, Australia and the USA. The pair previously finished first at the 2008 Speedo USA Diving Spring National championships and qualified, along with fellow Blue Devil club member Nick McCrory of East Chapel Hill, for the USA Diving Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis. Beginning June 16, the divers will compete for the opportunity to represent the USA at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Johnston will attend Duke University beginning this fall. McCrory will be a senior at East Chapel Hill High School.
