Wednesday will mark the first anniversary of the opening of the Seymour Center. The celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Healthy-aging booths, exercise demonstrations, entertainment and a dedication of the new outside sculpture are among the activities planned, and Joe and Terry Graedon with "The People's Pharmacy" will be the special guests at noon. Free box lunches will be available.
Upcoming trips

June 21: We will travel to the 12th annual Civil War Weekend at the Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldiers. Located in Petersburg, Va., the park's 422 acres include four award-winning museums, four antebellum homes, living history venues and shopping and dining facilities. Trip fee: $55 per person, includes transportation, driver gratuity, tour attraction, guided tour and lunch. Call 968-2070 to register.

June 4: Bus tour of historic Raleigh and a walking tour of Raulston Arboretum may inspire home gardeners to select new plantings. A volunteer guide will educate us as we stroll by woody plants and perennial borders. Lunch at Niomonde restaurant. Trip fee: $8. To register, call 245-2015.

June 6: The annual Fishing and Picnic Trip from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. offers a day of fishing, a picnic, a boat ride or just time to relax and take in the scenery. Transportation is limited to 14. Free. Bus will depart Seymour Center at 8 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Call 968-2070 to register.

Join us June 2 at 3 p.m. for afternoon tea as we open a new Senior Artist's Exhibition featuring David Otto's "Natural Treasures of Chapel Hill and Carrboro." On June 5 at 2 p.m. Otto will present

The Seymour Center monthly potluck dinners are always fun. Join us June 12 at 5:30 p.m. when the center provides the meat and you bring the side dishes and desserts. This month the entertainment will be David Perry and the Village Band.

"Turning 65 -- What Do I Need to Do? What Do I Need to Know?" will be presented June 25 at 3:30 p.m. Katherine Leith, Orange County Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program coordinator and volunteers will be available to talk to people about their individual situations. To celebrate the Seymour Center's first anniversary in the new building, Prime Time Players, the Seymour Center theater troupe, will sponsor MayTime Merriment, a variety gala, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Admission is $5. Refreshments will be served.

Dancing at the Center Tuesdays, June 10-July 15

Seymour Center Dance Classes will be taught by teacher-choreographer Peter Di Falco. This term's dances will focus on the American waltz in the first hour and samba in the second hour. Fee: $72 per term, and $135 per couple. To register call 968-2070.

June 4: Vision: What are the best ways to take care of our aging eyes? Experts from the Duke Optical Center will be available to talk about eye care, diseases and prevention of eyes diseases.

June 18: The Choice Among Health Care Options Is Yours: Who Bears the Consequences? Bernie Kemp, a health care economist, and Erin Coyle, a certified message therapist and herbalist, will discuss the basic issues involved in making health care choices.
