North Carolina guard Bobby Frasor was cleared by doctors Monday to begin full training after being sidelined for six months following a knee ligament tear. The 6-3 combo guard was hurt against Nevada on Dec. 27 and missed the second half of his junior season, but will now be ready to help the Tar Heels pursue a national championship in his final year in Chapel Hill.

Frasor walked into a starting role his rookie season when he helped the rebuilding 2006 UNC team win 23 games. But when Ty Lawson arrived the next year, Frasor's minutes plummeted from 28 per game to just 10. Last season he was earning 16 minutes a game at both guard positions and repeatedly earning recognition for his defense before the unfortunate injury.

This year, the Blue Island, Ill., native -- who says he's happy Lawson decided to come back to school -- will contend with new arrival Larry Drew II for backup point guard minutes, and should play some shooting guard as well.

Hoops tix on sale

Season ticket renewals and new season ticket orders for North Carolina's 2008-2009 home women's basketball games are currently on sale.

Until Aug. 1, the new season tickets will be available at last year's price. After that date, the 2008-2009 season ticket prices will be implemented.

The 2008-09 schedule will be released later this summer and will feature home dates against Connecticut and Duke. All home games this season will be played at the Dean E. Smith Center while Carmichael Auditorium undergoes a multi-million dollar renovation.

Season tickets can be ordered by logging on to TarHeelBlue.com and clicking "Ticket Center" or by calling the UNC Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-722-4335.

Ups and downs at the North & South

Three young Tar Heel golfers did well at the venerable North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst No. 2. In the stroke qualifying, rising sophomore Kevin O'Connell of Cary, (UNC's top golfer last year,) rising soph Henry Zaytoun of Raleigh and rising senior Robert Riesen from Pinehurst all advanced to the match play portion of the 108th annual championship. Carolina signee Jack Fields, just graduated from high school in nearby Southern Pines, missed the qualifying cut by three strokes.

All three of the Tar Heels were eliminated last week in match play. The N&S championship finals, a 36-hole affair, will be played today.

The women's 106th annual North & South will begin July 14.
