- Jorge Campos Diaz graduated from East Chapel Hill High School on June 14. He played on the ECHHS soccer team and was named to the all-conference team. He received a Greensboro College Founders Scholarship for Merit, an award of $7,500 per year to attend Greensboro College for four years. He will also play on the Greensboro College men's soccer team. He is the son of Daisy Diaz and Jose "Federico" Campos of Chapel Hill.
- Lindsay Barton and Cameron Russell have been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.Barton and Russell earned their award for collecting 200 pairs of new or gently used children's shoes, which they sorted, cleaned, packed and sent to Share Your Soles, an organization that provides shoes to the needy children. They are members of Girl Scout Troop 54 advised by Jane Kaman.Barton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barton of Chapel Hill and attends Carrboro High School. Russell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Russell of Pittsboro and attends Northwood High School.
- Morgan Kaman has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.>She created a Web site dedicated to mathematics for her Girl Scout Silver Award project. Her Web site includes games, informative essays about difficult concepts, and a list of high-earning mathematical careers.She is the daughter of Jane and Chris H. Kaman of Chapel Hill and attends Northwood High School. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 54 advised by Jane Kaman.
- Keila Leverette and Kellen Peter have been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.They planned and organized an Orange County cookie rally to educate and encourage local Girl Scouts to increase their cookie sales from previous years. The are are members of Girl Scout Troop 1753 advised by Cindy Leverette.Leverette is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Leverette of Hillsborough and attends C.W. Stanford Middle School. Peter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Peter of Hillsborough and attends C.W. Stanford Middle School.
- Aaron Simpson and Ellie Simpson of Carrboro will be on tour with the North Carolina Baptist All-State Youth Choir July 15-20. The auditioned choir includes some 90 singers from throughout the state.
- Katherine Mulligan has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.She gave girls the opportunity to learn about Juliette Gordon Low and Girl Scouting through the ages. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Neil Mulligan of Hillsborough and attends C.W. Stanford Middle School. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1753 advised by Cindy Leverette.
- Shen Chen of Chapel Hill, a student at East Chapel Hill High School, was awarded a $2,000 AXA Achievement Community Scholarship by the Raleigh Branch of the AXA Advisors. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; and the ability to succeed in college.
- Jocelyn Proctor has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.She ran a letterboxing station at her local Junior Girl Scout Camporee so that the girls could have fun outdoors and learn something new.She attends A.L. Stanback Middle School. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 59 advised by Diana Eastwood, Kay Kirby, and Linda Roberts.
- Ryan Fisher of Chapel Hill was named to the Dean's List for the spring semestser at Syracuse University. He is a junior majoring in political science and economics and is a 2006 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.
- Sarah Rosemond has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.She organized an Easter gathering with an egg hunt, snacks, and treat bags for each child at the Women's and Children's Transitional Housing Shelter in Chapel Hill. She also packed and provided 30 personal care kits for use at the shelter.She is the daughter of Linda and Steve Rosemond of Hillsborough and attends Cedar Ridge High School. She is an individually registered Girl Scout.
- Arianna Vargas has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest achievement for Girl Scouts 11-14. It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.She organized an art camp for her Girl Scout Silver Award project. The art camp was set up for three days in her community.She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vargas of Chapel Hill and attends Northwood High School. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 54 advised by Jane Kaman.
- Will McFarlane has been selected for the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn., as a member of The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. McFarlane toured with Bonnie Raitt for six years and has shared the stage and recorded with many top musicians. He frequently plays at the Blue Bayou in downtown Hillsborough and performs regularly with Armand & Bluesology as well as with his own band, The Will McFarlane Band.
- Daniel Potter has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His Eagle project was the construction of a prayer trail at HillSong Church. He joined Troop 845 in 2001 and has been senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster. He recently graduated form Chapel Hill High School and plans to attend UNC-Wilmington in the fall. He is the son of Clarence and Valerie Potter.
- Zachary Meicher-Buzzi has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He joined Troop 845 in 2002 and has been patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. For his Eagle service project, he renovated the West End Theater in the Carrboro Arts Center. He is the son of Valerie Meicher and is a rising senior at Chapel Hill High School.
