- A Pet First Aid class will be offered Aug. 22, 6 p.m., at the Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross at 101 Ephesus Church Road, Suite B. - The Nick's Road Animal Clinic provides basic shots and low-cost spay/neuter surgery to the public. 304-2337.
- THE $20 FIX from AnimalKind enables low-income pet owners in Orange and Chatham to spay/neuter pets for $20 or less. - The Triangle Pet Rescue, www.trainglepetrescue.com, is a Web site with links for area rescues, shelter, lost or found animals, spay/neuter resources, and information about helping animals with behavior or special needs and pet loss among other things. There is also a nonprofit rescue fund (www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC445.html) that helps cover fees for veterinary care for Triangle animals so that they can be placed into a rescue or adoptive home.

- nBayou Rescue is seeking volunteers and donations to support local Red Cross clients who have pets. Services provided by this non-profit include education and disaster preparedness plans, searching for pets who are lost during disasters, replacing pet items destroyed, providing assistance with boarding while the family seeks to relocate, and assisting with veterinary bills for animals injured in disaster.
