NC Community Shares will host a Social Justice Awareness Day at Twig, a local retailer of eco-friendly goods, on Sept. 6 from 2 to 5 p.m.

NC Community Shares is a federation of more than 30 community-based nonprofits dedicated to working for fairness and equality in North Carolina.

The event will include music, door prizes and refreshments. Twig, at Village Plaza on Elliott Road (next to Whole Foods), will donate 20 percent of its sales during the event to NC Community Shares.

Several of the non-profit member organizations will be on hand to share information about their local work, including NC Justice Center, North Carolinians Against Gun Violence, Durham Affordable Housing Coalition, Family Violence Prevention Center, North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault, People of Faith Against The Death Penalty, American Civil Liberties Union and WNCU radio.

Twig owner Shawn Slome said the store will donate 20 percent of all sales the weekend of the event to the cause. Customers can direct their contributions to the nonprofit of their choice.

For information, call Twig at 929-8944.
