Bill and Ginny Phelan of Allentown, Pa., announce the engagement of their daughter Devon Brent Phelan to Jason Alan Barker, son of Terry and Kaye Barker of Chapel Hill.

The bride-elect holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a graduate degree from Lehigh University. She is a fifth-grade teacher at Morrisville Elementary School in Morrisville.

The groom-elect is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and holds an undergraduate degree and a doctorate from N.C. State. He is a biopharmaceutics group leader at KBI Biopharma.

The wedding will be held Oct. 5 on the Outer Banks.
