CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill and Carrboro families have a new option for after-school care. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center has introduced the Morehead Afterschool Program (MAP) for elementary age schoolchildren. MAP runs from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning August 25. The program will follow the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools calendar.

"We're going to take advantage of everything Morehead and UNC can offer elementary school children in the way of science," Science Programs Manager Jonathan Frederick said. "We're really lucky to have such amazing resources on this campus that we can explore with our afterschool kids."

In an effort to create an environmentally sustainable program, chaperones will join children on Chapel Hill Transit buses serving Carrboro, Ephesus Road, Frank Porter Graham or McDougle elementary schools. Parents must provide transportation from other schools.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is located at 250 E. Franklin St. For information, visit www.moreheadplanetarium.org/go/afterschool or call Jonathan Frederick at 843-7951.
