CHHS Football
Class: Senior, Chapel Hill High School. Age: 17.
Parents: Anne & Scott Ray. Sibling: brother Aidan Ray, 13.
Teammates call him: Frank. "Franklin is my middle name."
The skinny: Ray is a quintessential student-athlete, with 3.6 GPA and one of the captains on league-leading CHHS football team -- tight End on offense, long snapper on punts and defensive end. He leads the team and rates among the PAC-6 leaders in sacks, with 17 through 10 games.
Favorite subject: math. It takes me where I want to go in my career.
College plans: Virginia Tech or N.C. State.
In Five years: "I'll be in graduate school or working in my career ... mechanical engineering.
Plays football because: "It keeps me in good physical shape, and I like the work ethic and camaraderie. It's fun.
If not football: "I wrestled in middle school and played baseball my freshman and sophomore years. After I broke my thumb, I switched to track & field ... discus."
Best moment in sports: "My two best friends and I got the first field goal in Smith Middle School history ... about 29 yards. Jamie Saunders was the long snapper; I was the holder; and Justin Giersbrook was the kicker."
Favorite athlete: NFL quarterback Brett Favre.
Favorite foods: Pizza and cheese quesadilla.
On my iPod: 'Put On' by Jeezy. I listen to 'Put On' before every practice, before every game, and on the way home after football. That was Atlas Fraley's favorite song."
Best movie last 12 months: 'Chocolate Thunder'.
Favorite TV show: 'Chuck' on NBC. ("A computer geek turned government agent.")
In five years: "I'll be in graduate school or working toward my career in car design."
SUV or Hybrid: Hybrid,
Dream vacation: "Ireland ... That's my ancestry. I love Gaelic music, Gaelic culture."
Phobia: "Being in the wrong place at the wrong time ... like in a car wreck."
Cheeseburger or spinach souffle: Cheeseburger.
Three people to invite to dinner: Barack Obama, Brett Favre, and my teammate Atlas Fraley "... just so I could tell him how much every misses him and how we dedicate every play to him."
Best holiday: Christmas. "Not because of the presents. Because it's the most peaceful day of the year. You can just be wit your family and relax and share the joy of Christmas."
I wish: "eating junk food were good for you."
Something I'd like to do better: "Putting words on paper, writing in general, especially in English class. I think that's my one weakness in my education."
I can't live without: My friends. They're rally important part of my life, sculpting who I am, shaping my world view."
