Changes mulled for tree ordinance

The Hillsborough Town Board will consider amending the town's tree ordinance during a public hearing Monday.

The proposed amendment would include increasing penalties for violations of the ordinance from $1,000 to $2,500. It also would include clarifying Tree Ordinance provisions involving care, preservation and removal of trees in Hillsborough and increasing the number of appointees to the Tree Board.

A copy of the draft ordinance is at Town Hall and on the town's Web site, www.hillsboroughnc.org. The Town Board meets at 7 p.m. in the Town Barn, 101 E. Orange St.
