CARRBORO

• A drill, charger, battery and tool bag containing hand tools were stolen Monday night from a business in Carr Mill Mall on North Greensboro Street.

• A man lost $450 after he cashed a forged check at Bank of America on East Main Street. The victim said a stranger asked him to cash the check because he had no bank account, and then discovered from his bank statement that the account the check came from was closed.

• Someone tried to break into a Weatherhill Point residence Tuesday by removing a window screen but was chased off by the resident. The resident caught up to the suspect, who then punched and bit the victim before escaping.

• Someone entered a Sue Ann Court residence through the back window and stole a TV on Tuesday.

• A 39-year-old man was bitten by a dog while jogging on Tallyho Trail on Tuesday.

• Hsien Fu Chen, 64, of 704 N. Greensboro St., was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury. According to a police report, he threw hot grease on a man in the kitchen of Jade Palace Restaurant on East Main Street during an argument.

• A William White Court resident reported Thursday that a cat "constantly kills birds" at the bird feeder in her yard.

• Timothy Chaplin, 33, of 103 Louis Armstrong Court in Chapel Hill, was arrested Thursday and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, his blood alcohol level was 0.12.

• Vehicle break-ins this week:

Someone stole a laptop, a GPS unit and $5 in change from a vehicle on South Greensboro Street. The bag the laptop was in was found empty by Weaver Street Market employees and returned to the owner. Four chrome rims and tires were stolen from a car on Old Fayetteville Road on Monday. A window had been broken and a jack had been used to put the car on cinderblocks. And a radio was stolen on Wednesday from an unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of Abbey Court Apartments on Jones Ferry Road.

CHAPEL HILL

• Andras Miguel Lahocinsky, 40, of 125 Long View Drive in Pittsboro, was arrested Monday and charged with possession of schedule II drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to a police report, Lahocinsky had 0.3 grams of crack cocaine.

• Someone stole $250 cash from Bin 54 Restaurant on Raleigh Road, an employee reported Monday.

• An alarm clock, speakers, headphones and an external hard drive were reported stolen Monday from a West Cameron Avenue fraternity house.

• Someone broke a small window at Johnny T-Shirt on East Franklin Street on Monday night, causing $200 damage.

• Jaesun Michael Rhee, 31, of 211 Conner Drive Unit 22, was arrested Tuesday and charged with driving while impaired, failure to report an accident and driving without a license. According to a police report, Rhee's blood alcohol level was 0.12 after he crashed into a power pole.

• Police received a report on Tuesday morning that a man was walking down Legion Road with a gun.

• A Bayberry Drive resident reported Tuesday that someone threw eggs at her residence, causing $350 damage.

• Police received a report on Tuesday afternoon that someone was using a loud leaf blower on Clayton Road.

• Cassandra Jane Ray, 29, of 2208 Ivey Road, was arrested Wednesday and charged with exploiting the disabled or elderly, a felony. According to a police report, Ray used an ATM card to withdraw $1,000 cash from the victim's account.

• Kevin M. Pickett, 29, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday and charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving. According to a police report, Pickett refused a breath analysis test.

• Police received a report on Wednesday that an intoxicated person was threatening tellers at Wachovia Bank on South Estes Drive.

• Shannon Monique Boyd, 22, of 1749 Dobbins Drive Unit 4L, was arrested Wednesday and charged with simple assault and carrying a concealed weapon, according to a report.

• Someone removed and damaged a menorah decoration, valued at $1,400, at the orthodox Jewish organization Chabad on North Estes Drive on Wednesday.

• Kyle James McBratine, 18, of 311 Ashley Forest Drive Unit E, was arrested Wednesday and charged with receiving stolen goods and possession of stolen goods, according to a police report.

• Nine pairs of shoes were stolen from Comfortable Shoes on East Franklin Street on Wednesday. The shoes had a total value of $560.

• UNC student Matthew Alan Benton, 21, of 116 Shadowood Drive Unit U, was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking and entering and vandalism to a public building. According to a police report, Benton is suspected of kicking in a glass door at Phillips Middle School and discharging a fire extinguisher.

• William Worth Miller Byrd, 22, of 109 Park Place Drive, was arrested Thursday and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, Byrd's blood alcohol level was 0.21 after he crashed his car into a taxi.

• Vehicle break-ins:

Someone used a rock to break the window of a truck on East Franklin Street and stole a $50 jacket. Another car window on East Franklin Street was broken and a radio, a DVD and a video game were stolen. A dashboard was damaged in an attempt to steal a radio from a car on Conner Drive. And someone broke the window of a car on Erwin Road and stole a purse containing a credit or debit card and a phone.
