Gosh, they don't look that bad. The Really Terrible Orchestra Of the Triangle (RTOOT) will present its inaugural concert tonight at 8 p.m. in Hill Hall on the UNC campus. RTOOT, based on the model of the world-famous Really Terrible Orchestra of Edinburgh, Scotland, features area musicians who are competent but not quite competent enough to play with the Durham Symphony, the Raleigh Symphony or the Chapel Hill Philharmonia. In its debut tonight, the RTOOT, conducted by W. Sands Hobgood, will make valiant attempts at works including the Adagio movement from Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 and Johann Strauss' "On the Beautiful Blue Danube," as well as a holiday sing-along. "Audience members are requested to turn their cell phones on," the RTOOT says, "to cover up any terrible noises that might emanate from the stage." Audience members are invited to recover by enjoying a catered reception after the show. Tickets are $7, available at Cameron's, Market Street Books, McIntyre's Fine Books, and at the door. For more information, see rtoot.org.
