The bride-elect is a graduate of UNC-Wilmington with a bachelor's degree in business management. She is an account executive for Charlotte Arrangements.

The groom-elect is a graduate of N.C. State University with a bachelor's degree in business management. He is a senior marketing manager for Irwin Industrial Tools.

The wedding ceremony is planned for April 25, 2009 in Charlotte.

Dr. and Mrs. Francis A. DiGiano of Fearrington Village announce the engagement of their daughter, Maria Louise DiGiano, to Jean-Gael Emptaz-Collomb.

Maria is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and UNC.

Jean-Gael is the son of Jean Emptaz-Collomb and his wife Joelle Brun de Pontet of Paris, France. He is a graduate of George Washington University, Washington, DC.

A winter wedding is planned in Gainesville, Fla., where Maria and Jean-Gael are doctoral candidates in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Florida.

Dr. and Mrs. James Putney of Chapel Hill announce the engagement of their daughter, Margaret (Peggy), to Justin Jon Mallette of Catonsville, Md.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and received a bachelor's degree in astrophysics at Oberlin College and a master's degree in science writing at Johns Hopkins University. She is employed as a medical assistant in Baltimore.

The groom-elect attended Catonsville High School and works as a network engineer.

An October wedding is being planned.

Joseph S. Pagano

Joan Friedberg Gross and Joseph Stephen Pagano were marrried on Dec. 30, 2009 at The Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill.

They were attended by their children and grandchildren, Anne and Will Gross of High Point; Stephen, Ben and Noah Pagano of Graham; and Christopher and Jake Pagano of Wellesley, Mass.

Mrs. Pagano is the daughter of Edwin P. Friedberg of Raleigh and Edith Mansfield of Wrightsville Beach. Dr. Pagano is professor and director emeritus of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The couple reside at Laurel Hill Road in Chapel Hill.
