Harrison Fahrer, son of Rick and Miriam Fahrer of Chapel Hill, made both the Dean's List and the Chancellor's List at Appalachian State University for the Fall Semester 2008.

To be on the Chancellor's List, a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.85 or better. Fahrer is a graduate of East Chapel Hill High School and a senior at ASU.

Chapel Hill High School graduate Nate Weida and UNC grad Sarah Hayes Donnell have written a rock opera, "The New Hopeville Comics," that is being performed off-Broadway at the ATA Chernuchin Theatre in New York City this month. Participants from Chapel Hill include cast members John Bennett, Sarah Hayes Donnell, and Patrick Link; band members Justin Ansley, Ben Lee, Nick Rowe, Marty Stam, and Nate Weida; wardrobe assistant, Megan Gulla; General Manager, Amanda Axelrod; production manager Kate Stratton; choreographer Ashley Adamek; music director Tim Matson; and costume designer Denise Schumaker. Scott Conary, owner of The Open Eye Cafe, Caffe Driade and Carrboro Coffee Company, served as the Head Judge at the U.S. Barista Championship in Portland, Ore., March 5-8.

Elizabeth "Liz" Mcintyre of Chapel Hill was named to the Dean's List of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the Fall 2008 Term at Villanova University. She is the daughter of Bob and Rebecca McIntyre and a 2007 graduate of East Chapel Hill High. To be named to the list, a student must have a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.5.

Peter H. Gilligan, a professor in the UNC School of Medicine, has been elected to the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Microbiology.

Gilligan is a member of the school's microbiology and immunology department and serves as director of clinical microbiology-immunology laboratories and phlebotomy services at UNC Hospitals.

Mary Lambert, former Chapel Hill High School lacrosse standout, is now a freshman attacker for the NCAA Div. III Goucher College Gophers. She was recently named the Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week. She also made Dean's List at Goucher for Fall 2008.

David High, a junior from East Chapel Hill High School, is the 2009 State Scholastic Chess Champion. He won the individual title in the state tournament in Charlotte.

He won all five of his matches and took home the top prize. He was awarded a $1,500 scholarship to college, a chess set and automatic entry in the nationals taking place this summer in Indianapolis, Ind.

David's brother, Zachary, came in 15th place.

East Chapel Hill High School took first place in the team competition.
