Chapel Hill High School was nominated in every category of the third annual Capital Awards for High School Musical Excellence, which honor drama students from 11 Triangle-area high schools. The awards, encompassing six counties, recognize outstanding high school musical productions and performances in 16 categories.
CHHS and Ravenscroft School were the only schools to receive nominations in every category.
Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough received nominations in five categories.
Triangle area judges critiqued the 11 participating schools during the fall and spring productions.
CHHS' nominations are:
• Nora Burgard, Outstanding Featured Performer
• Megan Westman, Outstanding Leading Actress
• Bobby Gollmar, Outstanding Leading Actor
• Allison Driskill, Outstanding Supporting Actress
• John Arnold, Outstanding Supporting Actor
• Outstanding Sound Design
• Outstanding Scenic Design
• Outstanding Lighting Design
• Outstanding Costume Design
• Outstanding Musical Direction
• Outstanding Orchestra
• Outstanding Stage Crew and Technical Execution
• Outstanding Ensemble
• Outstanding Choreography
• Outstanding Direction
• "Urinetown," Outstanding Musical.
Cedar Ridge's production of "Evita" earned nominations for:
• Rebecca Brinkley, Outstanding Leading Actress
• Turner Davis, Outstanding Leading Actor
• Outstanding Direction
• Outstanding Choreography
• Outstanding Ensemble.
The awards will be presented Monday at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
