Cat's Cradle, The ArtsCenter and Musical Roots Productions are launching a new outdoor concert series Thursday with a performance by the Steve Jack Band. The 300 East Main Summer Concert Series will be held in the east parking lot at that address, next to the ArtsCenter, from 5 to7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month through September. Admission is free, but a $5 donation gets you a wristband that lets you buy beer at the shows all summer. 918-7828.

FRIDAY

Legendary bluesman Johnny Winter returns to The ArtsCenter Friday night, along with local guitar wizard Cyril Lance. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Admission is $36, $34 for ArtsCenter Friends.

SATURDAY

Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey, the songwriting half of the influential 1970s and '80s band The dBs, have just released a new collaborative album, 'hERE aND nOW' which features guest artists including Branford Marsalis, Jon Wurster and former dBs bandmates Gene Holder and Will Rigby. Saturday night Holsapple & Stamey will play at the Cat's Cradle, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro. American Aquarium and Luego will open. Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. 967-9053, www.catscradle.com.

SATURDAY

Women's Voices Chorus will perform a summer benefit concert called 'Just Us Chickens' Saturday at 7 p.m. at Forest Theater on the UNC campus. The concert, for children and adults of all ages, will feature music, stories, and songs about animals. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to Paws4Ever, a local nonprofit animal welfare organization. In case of rain, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Cross, 304 E.
