Richard "Dickie" Schock, who last year coached Orange High to its first football conference championship in 24 years, will return to Rocky Mount as its football coach this season.
Mike Gainey, the Rocky Mount athletic director, announced Monday that Schock, who had been a Gryphons assistant under retiring coach B.W. Holt, was taking the head coaching reins.
Schock said Orange should contend again this year and that he'll miss the players.
"But this is one of the top four or five jobs in Eastern North Carolina," he said. "... Rocky Mount is a great opportunity."
