Dallie Marie Liner Jones, aged 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Duke Hospice on Aug. 12, from complications from Parkinson's Disease.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Haywood Jones III, who died in March, 2009.

Dallie was a native of Hillsborough and graduated from Hillsborough High School with the class of 1941, received a two-year business degree from Highpoint College, and worked at Harris, Upham & Company (later Smith Barney Harris Upham) for more than 25 years. There she rose from office manager to earn her brokerage license and became one of the first female stockbrokers in the South.

Dallie was a skilled bridge player, Scrabble player, golfer, and lover of the arts. She was a former member of the Calvary Methodist Church. With her soul mate, Haywood, she traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, enjoying many adventures during their journeys. Her effervescent spirit and infectious smile were matched by her genuine love for others, kindness, and unparalleled "joie de vivre." Though slowed in her later years, she never lost the twinkle in her eye and her ready wit, along with her compassion, love and pride in her husband, children and grandchildren.

Dallie is survived by her daughters, Donna J. Knight of Chapel Hill, Patti J. Lang and husband Allan of Durham; grandchildren, Edith Miletto and husband Andrea of Gryon, Switzerland, Adam W. Knight of Chapel Hill and Katharine H. Robinson and husband Elliott of Chapel Hill; and sisters, Barbara Cannady of Durham and Carol Martin of Keller, Texas.

The family will receive visitors at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham today from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Hall-Wynne Chapel at 2 p.m. with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Research Fund (#91842), c/o The Medical Foundation of N.C., 880 Martin Luther King Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
