Congratulations to producer Joseph Haj and his versatile UNC PlayMakers company for their production of "Opus" -- one of the most satisfying productions I have seen anywhere in the past few years.

As a former theatre director turned jazz musician, I know I am impatient, opinionated, and often picky, yet I watched "Opus" with a growing sense of how perfectly the "pieces" of acting, design, and tech were fused in this PlayMakers production. I hesitate to name names because all the cast and all the designers worked so perfectly together, a rarity in both music and theatre.

The show itself is by turns funny, scary, sad -- and ultimately victorious when the classical musicians involved choose an artistic triumph over an easier, perhaps financially safe future. Thank you, cast and crew for an exceptional evening -- and I echo the standing-ovation-crowd: "More, more!"
