Chapel Hill Town Councilman Jim Merrritt and Eugene Farrar of Chapel Hill were among those who took part Monday afternoon in the inaugural Bill Thorpe Golf Classic at the Chapel Hill Country Club.
William Thorpe Jr., son of the late Chapel Hill Town Council member, was host of the new, fund-raising event, which was named in honor of his father.
Organizers hope to collect enough funds to open and stock kiosks to offer fresh fruit at each of the three Chapel Hill-Carrboro high schools.
