For the past couple of years I have written short articles about wildlife in our area, and Dale Morgan has illustrated the articles.

This month Dale has done another beautiful painting, this time of an owl. Few birds are more interesting than the owls. They are associated with both wisdom and witchcraft, viewed as both good and bad omens, silent and stuffy observers -- owls are all of these things.

Owls have fantastic sight and hearing and use both to hunt. Fringed flight feathers on their broad wings create silent flight.

To learn more about these fantastic birds and meet one in person I invite you to Piedmont Wildlife Center's Annual Gala and Auction Nov. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. You will have the opportunity to bid on one of Dale's works of art and learn how Piedmont Wildlife Center is supporting wildlife. Information and tickets at www.piedmontwildlifecenter.org/auction or call 489-0900.
