The fourth annual Carrboro Film Festival drew 105 submissions, more than ever before, and also set new records for the number of films submitted by women and students. The selection committee chose 27 of the best of the best to be shown at this year's festival Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro. The selections cover a wide range of genres, subjects and styles -- fictional narratives, documentaries, music videos, experimental pieces, animated films. The one thing they have in common, besides quality, is that each one runs 20 minutes or less. "If this year is anything like last, and that's what it's shaping up to be, then the festival will be nothing short of sublime," said festival chair Selena Lauterer. If past festivals are any indication, you'd do well to show up early; the Carrboro Film Festival usually draws 400 to 500 film lovers, making seats a premium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Children ages 10 and under are free.
