Big numbers for BBG&GA record number of runners, more than 1,000, signed up for last Thursday's annual "BB" Gallop and Gorge 8K road race in Carrboro. But some of the same, familiar faces were first in.
Marc Jeuland of Carrboro was first overall, with a time of 25:30.53, and
John Hinton of Chapel Hill was the top masters' male (and third overall) with his time of 26:34.07.

Tiffany Thompsen was the first female across the line (31:02.71) and
Kim Certain of Chapel Hill (31:32.99) was topsw among masters' females.

Roy Williams is recovering after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. Williams had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum, an injury he sustained in early October when he slipped on a wet step at a golf course during a charity event. The surgery lasted 90 minutes and Williams returned home later in the day.
The 11th-ranked Tar Heels didn't practice Tuesday.
Williams will wear a sling on his left arm for about four weeks and undergo several months of rehabilitation. He is expected to coach from the sidelines today when he goes for his 600th career victory against Nevada.
Wildcats fall in Knightdale turnamentEast Chapel Hill (2-1) lost for the first time this basketball season when Rocky Mount edged the Wildcats 86-85 in an overtime game played at Knightdale.
Aaron Law led East Chapel Hill's scoring with 24 points, while
Randall Davis and
Ross Whisenant each had 17.
Bryson Gibson, who had a game-high 17 Tuesday in an 82-19 blowout of Carrboro, chipped in 11.
"Usually, my team knows I get a little down after a loss, " East coach
Ray Hartsfield said. "But I was surprisingly 'up' after this one. I told the players, we all had a lot of questions about ourselves before this game. Now we know we can play with the top teams in the state."

Tar Heel women return to College CupSenior forward
Casey No gueira recorded the fourth hat trick of her career to lead the third-ranked North Carolina women's soccer team to a 5-2 win Friday over ninth-ranked Wake Forest in the NCAA quarterfinals.
With the win, UNC (21-3-1) advances to the NCAA College Cup for the 25th time in the last 28 years. The Tar Heels will meet Notre Dame next Friday in the NCAA semifinals in College Station, Texas.
The Demon Deacons saw their season end with a 16-6-2 mark.
UNC finished the season undefeated at home, going 13-0 at Fetzer Field during the campaign. Playing before a crowd of 2, 914 at Fetzer Field, the Tar Heels jumped out to a 3-0 lead at halftime, outshooting the Demon Deacons 7-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
Carolina ended with a 13-7 edge in shots, and the Tar Heels scored five goals in their seven shots that were on frame.
Wake Forest's scoring broke a string of eight successive shutouts for the Tar Heels and ended a string of nearly 800 scoreless minutes put up by the UNC defense. Carolina had not allowed a goal in 798 minutes and 52 seconds since
Beverly Goebel had tallied against the Tar Heels at the 80:11 mark of the match between the two teams on Oct. 25.
Nogueira now has 11 career multi-goal games, 54 goals and 136 career points -- in 14th place in Carolina history in all-time points.
