No. 4 UNC 76, CHARLESTON SOU. 67

Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Smith Center

Out-rebounded 28-27 in the first half last Sunday, UNC's No.4-ranked women got a warniong from coach Sylvia Hatchell: beat Charleston Southern on the boards or expect to be at practice at 6 a.m. the next day for rebounding drills. UNC finished with a 46-43 advantage on the boards and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored a career-high 16 points to help the Tar Heels defeat Charleston Southern 76-67. Laura Broomfield scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Tar Heels (5-0), who shot 50 percent from the field. "As much as I'd love to do a rebounding practice at 6 o'clock in the morning, I'll keep my word," Hatchell said. "But at 1:30, we'll do the same thing." The Tar Heels survived a long-range onslaught from Charleston Southern (3-3), which entered the game averaging nearly 29 3-point attempts per game. The Buccaneers, made 17 of 48 3-point attempts against Carolina. Both figures are the highest ever by a North Carolina opponent.

No. 10 UNC 89, No. 9 MICHIGAN ST. 82

Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Smith Center

Eight months after beating the Spartans to win the national championship, the 10th-ranked Tar Heels did it again to No. 9 Michigan State. This time, they got career-best scoring performances from sophomores Ed Davis and Larry Drew II in Tuesday night's 89-82 victory that could be key for a young team that's still taking shape after losing so much star power from last season. Davis scored 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting for the Tar Heels (7-1), while Drew had 18 points and hit five free throws in the final minute to help the Tar Heels hold off a late rally by the Spartans (5-2).
