The 2-A Carolina-9 Conference wrestling championships have been rescheduled for Feb. 6 at Cedar Ridge High School. Weigh-ins start at 9 a.m. and bouts will begin at 10 a.m.

East takes PAC-6 championships
Led by Double winners Zoe Gan, Lisa Zhou and Dania Marinshaw, East Chapel Hill returned to the top of Piedmont Athletic Conference swimming with a sweep of last week's PAC-6 championships at Koury Natatorium.

Marinshaw won the 100 free (1:56.08) and 500 free (5:10.42), followed to the wall in both events by teammate Michelle York in second.

Gan captured firsts in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly. Zhou won the 50 and 100 free.

East's Meghan Smith won the 200 individual medley, and teammate Supriya Davis took the 100 back.

Wildcat teams also won the girls' medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

North Chatham lax clinic coming up
North Chatham Youth Lacrosse will host a free lacrosse clinic from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb 13, at Cardinal Field. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Cardinal Field is located at 434 Poythress Road, off U.S. 15-501 in northern Chatham County.

Many of the NCYL coaches and players plan to make a day of it and head after the clinic over to the UNC-Bryant lacrosse game at noon in Chapel Hill -- Carolina's first home match of the year. Contact coach Christopher Mann at northeastlax@yahoo.com to sign up or for more information. Space is limited.

Registration is open now for the NCYL boys' spring leagues. Please sign up at www.fusionlacrosse.com.

Also on the NCYL agenda, it will continue its girls developmental league this spring. They will practice 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Feb. 27. Please contact coach Sally Bond at usbond@mindspring.com for more information.

UNC spring game on TV
ESPN is jumping on the bandwagon early for North Carolina's football team. The Worldwide Leader in sports TV will televise the Tar Heels' spring game on April 10 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

Local running fans also will note that coincides nicely with the Tar Heel 10-Miler and Fleet Feet Sports 4-Mile Run for that date. Both road races are scheduled to end inside Kenan Stadium.

Spring football never has been a super-popular event at UNC. Last year's game, held the same day as the UNC men's basketball team played in the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament, was sparsely attended, with about 3,000 people in the 60,000-seat stadium.

But that may be different this year for Carolina -- which has 19 starters back for what should be an ACC contender and a slew of highly rated freshmen already enrolled for the spring semester.

Admission to the game is free. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.

The game also serves as early promotion for ESPN's telecast of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff on Sept. 4, when the Tar Heels and LSU open the college football season at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Tickets for that game are on sale now

Snow balks First Pitch
UNC's 2010 First Pitch Dinner scheduled for this weekend has been moved, due to the inclement weather, to Feb. 13. The event will be pushed back 30 minutes to accommodate fans from the UNC-N.C. State basketball game at 4 p.m. It is now scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social and silent auction followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Peter Gammons, a UNC grad who's one of the nation's top baseball analysts and commentators, will still serve as the event's scheduled speaker.

Tickets for the second-annual event, which sold out last year, are available by contacting Kim Jones with the Rams Club at (919) 843-6433. If you have already purchased a ticket, you will be receiving a phone call regarding the event's changes. Individual tickets are $75 and tables of eight seated with a UNC player are available for $600.

Mixon to join panel
Normally, we wouldn't take note of any event so far outside Chapel Hill or Orange County, but this one involves people well know here. Cincinnati Reds' play-by-play announcer Marty Brennaman will be joined by Carolina Panthers play-by-play announcer Mick Mixon and others for a sports media roundtable discussion 4-5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at Salisbury High School. The roundtable is free and open to the public.

Mixon, a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and the University of North Carolina, who recently won his fourth North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. The roundtable also will include Wake Forest radio's Stan Cotten, who won two NSSA North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year Awards, and Howard Platt, the 2003 NSSA North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year and play-by-play announcer of WSTP-AM in Salisbury. NSSA Executive Director Dave Goren will serve as moderator.

NCHSAA adds partner
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association and All American Swim Supply have entered into a three-year agreement naming All American Swim Supply as the title partner of the NCHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships.

All American Swim Supply is a full service swim store and team dealer located at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. The partnership allows opportunities for NCHSAA swimming programs and individual athletes statewide to secure necessary swimming related accessories and products via internet, or in-store sales.

Davis Whitfield, NCHSAA executive director, noted, "We believe this corporate partner can provide excellent service to our schools with swim programs."

The All American Swim Supply-NCHSAA 2010 State Swimming and Diving Championships will kick off on Thursday, Feb. 11, with the 4-A championships, followed on Feb. 12 by the 3-A events and then conclude on Feb. 13 with the 1A/2A competition, all at Triangle Aquatic Center. All American Swim Supply will be on site at all regional events to be held Feb. 5-6.

"We anticipate additional enhancements to our swimming program as a result of the partnership," said Carolyn Shannonhouse, the NCHSAA assistant executive director who coordinates the NCHSAA swim program.

For more information or to access All American Swim Supply's online store visit www.nssafame.com or at 459-4045, ext 234.
