MONDAY, JULY 26

CHHS FOOTBALL: The CHHS Football Mini-Camp will be held July 26-29, with sessions running from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening. The camp is free and open to all CHHS student athletes that are planning on playing football this fall. For more information, contact head coach Issac Marsh at IMarsh@chccs.k12.nc.us.

BULLDOGS JUMPING CAMPS: The Bouncing Bulldogs jump-rope team will host week-long camps, open to all area youth July 26-30, Aug. 9-13 and Aug.16-20. The sessions last 8 a.m. to noon each day and cost $200 per week. They will also host a "mini-camp" Aug. 23-24 ($80) -- 8 a.m. to noon. CHHS SOCCER CAMPS: The annual CHHS Soccer Camp at Chapel Hill High School will hold its final session of the summer July 26-30. The five-day session ($75) is designed for boys and girls, entering grades 7-12, who want to improve skills and their physical fitness heading into the fall season. CARRBORO BASEBALL CAMP: Carrboro High School will hold its third annual baseball camp for youths 10- to 12-years old on July 26-30 at Carrboro High School. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily. Camp focus is on teaching the basic fundamentals of baseball, its rules and strategies, and on learning to play the game with confidence. The registration fee is $95, and includes a camp T-shirt, water bottle, and a Friday cook-out/pizza party. AUTO RACING: at the Orange County Speedway - includes limited, late-model and street stock, plus a Southern ground pounders race. Grandstand tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students 11-17, children 10 and under free. All senior citizens, military personnel and area university employees are $5 with a valid ID. ONGOING ...

PREP FOOTBALL WORKOUTS: All three local high schools hold workouts and drills throughout the summer -- at Carrboro 8-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Mon - Tue - Thur - Friday, at CHHS, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and at East Chapel Hill, it's 6-8 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. and 7:30-9:30 p.m. Fridays. Tryouts and practices begin Aug. 1.

CPYFL FOOTBALL: Registration is continuing for the tackle football leagues for both Chapel Hill and Carrboro Rec Departments. Registration forms must be signed by a parent or guardian and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Birth certificates are required to participate. The season runs through late October.

Carrboro is also seeking volunteer coaches for all age groups for the fall season. Coaches' applications and player registration is being accepted currently at the Recreation Department, located at 100 N. Greensboro Street in Carrboro and via the town's web site at www.townofcarrboro.org. For more information, call 918-7364.

PICKUP SOCCER: Chapel Hill High School will host soccer free play 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, weather permitting, through July. These free "pickup" games are open to all local middle and high school kids. A soccer coach will organize and supervise the play. For more information, call coach Ron Benson at 929-9542.

FREE PHYSICALS: UNC Hospitals will offer free physical exams for all students - regardless of school - wanting to play fall sports, 6-8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Ambulatory Care Center. Information forms can be downloaded from NCHSAA.org or obtained at most area middle or high schools. The appropriate forms must be signed by a parent or guardian.
