As a homeless person, not hopeless, I fail to see the reasoning of the people opposed to the new shelter being built.

Not all homeless people are thugs, drug addicts, murderers or rapists. Many have become homeless by the fallen economy. And many with addictions, whether drugs or alcohol, have the resources to overcome them.

As for me, I'm a recovering alcoholic trying my best to change my ways and habits. The Community House is providing strength and courage so I can face each day.

Chapel Hill is a beautiful town. The people seem friendly until homelessness comes up. Being stereotyped bothers me because I am a good, honest hard worker, down on my luck. I guess that's what pushes me harder each day, that and prayer, to get back on my feet, and become functional in society.
