Chapel Hill Tire is working hard to increase the value of its service to customers, says Marc Pons, who owns the local chain with his brother Britt Pons and sister Neill Bellamy. The business is more about "a relationship with customers and not a transaction," he said. Chapel Hill Tire is a leading advocate of being green, too, adding low-flow toilets, lighting, recycling and more at all three stores as part of the Green Plus certification program. They even installed solar panels atop the Carrboro store. This year, Pons said, $2 from every "green" oil change - the oil is recycled and reused - is being used to buy carbon offsets from N.C. Green Power. Customers have noticed, and this year's voter responses gave Chapel Hill Tire big points for being sustainable and convenient, with "honest, fast, great customer service" at all three locations.
