CHAPEL HILL - Parents of a former middle school student have sued the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for negligence over an attack by a fellow student they say broke their son's nose.

Ceiran Crihfield was assaulted by another student at Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill on May 5, 2009, according to the complaint.

At the time Ceiran was 12 years old. He was taken to the emergency room with a head injury, internal bleeding and the broken nose, the complaint said.

Ceiran's parents Andrew and Lori Crihfield filed the lawsuit June 20. They are asking for $10,000 for personal injury, past and future medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

School officials were not immediately available for comment.
