The Orange Slice mixed doubles tennis teams won the 7.0 level bracket at the USTA's recent Adult State District Championship and will represent North Carolina in the upcoming sectionals in Georgia.

Captained by Angela Baxley and Elizabeth Dougherty, and playing out of Orange High School, the team compiled an 11-1 record over the summer.

Orange Slice players went into the Mixed Double championships as the Eno River entry and finished second in their group. They upset The Point Lake team from Mooresville and then Raleigh's Capital team to win the N.C. championship last Sunday.

The Orange Slice includes: Tenesha Thompson Carter, Christine Lee Chnupa, James Mancil Davison, Traci McCluney Harris, Stephen V. Judd, Carrie A. McCann, Thomas Newburg, Mary Williams Parker, John Andrew Proctor, Greg Samsa, Stanley T. Sherrill, Dean Zehnder and OHS tennis coach Jason W. Zoladz.

The USTA's N.C. Mixed Doubles State Championships concluded last weekend, with 11 state champions emerging from the rain-delayed tournament in Durham and at the Chapel Hill Tennis Club. All 11 winners will advance to Macon, Ga., for the USTA Sectional Championships, which will be held Oct. 14-16.
