Roper Warren Marks, age 56, died peacefully in his sleep on November 8th, 2011, at his home in Chapel Hill. He was born on May 16th, 1955, in Abington, Pennsylvania.
Beloved husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beverly; their six children, Julian, Matthew, Rowen, Parris, Trevor and Winsten; their daughter-in-law, Carlena; and first grandchild, Ruby Caroline. Roper was raised in Collingswood, New Jersey and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Patricia Marks, of Collingswood. He also leaves behind seven brothers, two sisters, thirteen nephews, eleven nieces, two grand nieces and one grand nephew.
Roper was a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and spent several years as a graduate student in the Department of Religious Studies at UNC in Chapel Hill. He became a high school teacher in 2002, and spent the last few years substituting in the Chapel Hill school system, which he enjoyed very much.
He will be remembered for his sharp intellect, his love of his family and philosophy, his iconoclasm, his beautiful soul and his equally beautiful art work. He is deeply loved and will be missed. He is irreplaceable and was always a unique individual.
