James "Jim" Andrew, 85, passed away early Sunday morning December 18, 2011 at the home of his daughter Dana Randolph and son-in-law Jon Randolph in Chapel Hill, NC. He died surrounded by loving family. Born October 29, 1926 he was the son of Harry Bruce Andrew and Mabel Walker Andrew of Brazil, IN and Keokuk, IA. James and Marjorie resided in Ames, IA prior to moving to the Durham/Chapel Hill area in 2007. He was a long term member of First Christian Church in Ames, Iowa, serving faithfully as a Deacon.
A veteran of WWII James served in the Navy in the South Pacific from the fall of 1944 to spring of 1946. He later served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1955 as an electrical lineman in Europe. He continued his career as an electrician, working for 25 years for the United States Department of Agriculture at Iowa State University until his retirement in 1991.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Bruce Andrew and Mabel Gladys Walker; his three sisters, Elizabeth Graf of Browns Mills, NJ, Rosemary Sampson of Emmett, Idaho, and Janice Lech of Pensacola, FL.; and by his young son, Steven James Andrew.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Marjorie Chadwick Andrew of Chapel Hill, NC, son David Bruce Andrew of Port Ewen, NY, and daughter Dana Andrew Randolph, her husband Jon Randolph and grandchildren Kevin and Katie Randolph, all from Chapel Hill, NC.
A memorial service was held at Hillsong Church in Chapel Hill, NC on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.
