Victoria Vela, beloved sister and aunt, died at the age of 82 on January 2, 2012 after a period of declining health.
The daughter of Dr. Luis Vela and Victoria Vergara, she was born on June 17, 1929 in Bogota, Colombia. Victoria lived in Chapel Hill for many years, and enjoyed painting, music, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include sisters Myriam Gangi and Elizabeth Skema of Chapel Hill, sisters Yolanda Restrepo and Margarita Morales of Bogota, Colombia, nephew Gregory Gangi of Carrboro, niece Lisa Gangi of Richmond, Virginia, and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 9 at The Newman Catholic Student Center, located at 218 Pittsboro Street in Chapel Hill.
