Cyclone Games blow into town

Smith Middle School's Booster Club and PTSA will host the Cyclone Games 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the school gym. The annual games pit students versus teachers in contests such as scooter basketball and football frenzy and a new dance competition for faculty.

Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to buy raffle tickets at $2 each. All proceeds benefit the PTA Thriftstore Building Campaign.

Academy to bear Baddour's name

The Carolina Leadership Academy, a nationally renowned training program for Tar Heel student-athletes, coaches and staff, has been renamed the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy to honor UNC's former director of athletics, who created the program in 2004.

The academy annually provides about 400 student-athletes with comprehensive, cutting-edge leadership development programs through interactive workshops, one-on-one coaching, peer mentoring and educational resources.

"I was speechless when I heard the announcement," said Baddour, at UNC for 46 years. "This is the highest compliment I have ever received."

Fans can get ticket to ride

Chapel Hill Transit will begin Tar Heel Express shuttles today at 4:30 p.m. for the North Carolina men's basketball game against Georgia Tech, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Dean E. Smith Center. Shuttles will leavefrom the park and rides at Friday Center, Southern Village, University Mall (next to Dillards), Jones Ferry and the Carolina Coffee Shop. Correction

The Chapel Hill News attributed a quote incorrectly in its article about Chapel Hill High School's Carolina 3A swim meet win over Cardinal Gibbons and Orange (CHN, Jan. 22, 2012). It was Allie Krasnov who should have been quoted as saying: "We're all as fast or faster than (Gibbons') swimmers. Cardinal Gibbons has strength in numbers more than quality."
